Jonestown Boards & Commissions

Citizen participation in local government is important and encouraged.

One way to participate in your local government is by serving on one of the Boards, Commissions or Committees established by the City Council. All board members serve in a voluntary capacity and are appointed by the City Council. Board members must make, at minimum, a commitment to serve their term length, attend board meetings regularly, and actively participate in the business of the board. Board vacancies are posted here as they occur. If you are interested in serving, return your completed application to the City Secretary.

Planning and Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission was created by the City Council to identify community needs and to advise the Council:

  • Of their short-range and long-range implications for the total development of the City
  • To recommend achievable community goals as a basis for long-range planning and development programs
  • To recommend plans, programs, and policies that will aid the entire community in achieving its defined goals
  • To interpret the adopted plans and programs to concerned citizens so that private activities and desires may be accomplished in harmony with public needs and policies.
  • This commission meets once monthly, and is scheduled to meet on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30pm.

Board of Adjustments

The Board of Adjustments was established by the City Council for the purpose of providing an appeals process for any person aggrieved by a decision of an administrative officer, or any officer, department, board or bureau of the City affected by any such decision by an administrative officer, in the enforcement of Chapter 211, Texas Local Government Code.

For further information on the powers and duties of this Board, see Article 1.05.08 of the Jonestown Municipal Code.

Library Advisory Board

The Library Advisory Board, established by the City Council, is made up of five (5) regular members and two (2) alternates. The board functions in an advisory capacity to the city council in areas such as policy, facility, present and future needs of the library, and programs, based upon recommendations of the library director.

This board meets quarterly, and is currently scheduled to meet on the first Thursday of February, May, August, and November at 7:00 p.m., in the Library meeting room.
